What is Rosacea?

If you have experienced your face flush when you are embarrassed then you have an idea what rosacea suffers have to face daily with pronounced redness on the face, neck, and chest.

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterized by flushing and blushing due to the appearance of veins. Usually, the sun is the major culprit in exacerbating rosacea by creating the extra facial veins that result in significant flushing. Affected individuals should take special precautions with high SPF sunscreen and UV tinting on car windows to protect their skin from excessive sun exposure.

The condition is known to flare up based on the individual’s emotional state, stress levels, and even diet such as citrus fruits or spicy foods. External stimuli such as exercise, coffee, alcohol, and sun exposure; triggers that are impossible to avoid in daily life fill up the extra veins with blood which show up as redness.

This genetic condition is more prevalent in light-skinned individuals in their 20s and 30s and affects both men and women. Other side effects that accompany rosacea include acne, general redness, and dilated capillaries.

Rosacea can go into remission, only to flare up again causing the individual discomfort and self-esteem issues from the red appearance of the affected area. Many women try to cover up traces of rosacea with make-up, whether a heavy foundation or color corrective concealer, only to be disappointed by the temporary solution. Laser therapy is the only way to destroy these blood-filled veins which the body absorbs through the healing process.

Why choose the Clareon IPL to Treat Rosacea?

Studies have found IPL to be an excellent treatment for rosacea because it targets both redness and brown hyperpigmentation enabling the customer to see overall tone improvement in the skin. To be more specific, the oxyhemoglobin in the blood absorbs the broadband wavelength from the IPL which creates heat that helps destroy the capillaries responsible for rosacea. The recommended treatment protocol for rosacea with IPL is 3-5 sessions spaced out over 4 weeks. Some contraindications for IPL treatment of rosacea is having tanned skin, patients should avoid sun exposure 2 weeks prior to and after the procedure. Furthermore, patients should check with their doctors about any prescription medications that may interfere with treatment. Post-treatment, the vessels are resorbed and facial redness diminishes. It is has been found that fairer skin tones respond better to treatment than those with darker complexions whose blood vessels may be masked by melanin. A scientific study that followed 60 people who used IPL to treat rosacea found that the treatment worked for 77.8 % of participants with significant improvement in skin tone and texture.
